Lots of things going on in this one. First of all: bid or bade? I actually printed them both. Dictionary says “bade” is an older version, but still uses it in the past tense…as in “I [am currently] bid[ding] thee adieu” and “the fox bade the raccoon adieu [and now is up to something new].” Second [of all], there are not one but TWO ligatures in this sentence…which must surely be a sign of good things to come. We shall see…
I was at an antique store today, and I stumbled upon a big, fatty “O” of a wood block that would have worked perfectly with my “F” and “X.” Unfortunately, it was ridiculously expensive and already ruined with hot glue on the back…these “collectors” make me furious. Right next to the “O” were several type cases with more antique wood type glued into them…such a waste!
So, as it turns out, I haven’t done so well with this 100-day, 100-sentence project. It ends up that writing a sentence, and typesetting the sentence, and printing the sentence, and photographing the print of the sentence, and posting the photograph of the print of the sentence (and putting away the type and cleaning the press) is A LOT more work than simply taking a photograph and posting it. (I figured out that my rate has been more like one sentence every 1.89 days…which isn’t too bad, considering…)
So I am revising the plan. The story will now take as long as it needs to take, though I will still aim to do a sentence a day if I can. Perhaps it will be a 200-day project instead. It may still end up being a 100-sentence story, but I am not going to limit myself if the story ends up being longer. As it is, the characters seem to have things to say, and I don’t want to limit them…I am still composing this from day to day, though, and have no real sense of what will happen in the end…
